The 2017 Vinton Shellsburg/CPU “Stormin’ Vikings” continue to make significant strides early in the season.  On Saturday the team registered 28 new personal best times in finishing 7th at the Grinnell Invitational in a field that included 4A powers Linn-Mar, Des Moines East, Indianola and Ottumwa.

Leading the way with strong individual performances were a combination of veterans and a newcomer.  Senior Isaac Vrba placed 6th in the 100 Breast, Sophomore Cyrus Elwick captured 7th in the 50 Free and freshman Isaac Allsup registered a 5th in the 100 Back and 7th in the 200 Individual Medley.  All four races were new personal records.

Additionally some new arrivals made big leaps with freshman Andrew Jessen dropping 1.5 second in the 50 free and more than 10 seconds in the 100 Free.  Rookie sophomore Anthony Hilton also saw some nice time drops, shaving 2 seconds off his 50 Free and nearly 3 seconds off his 100 Free.  Each turned in three new personal bests as did Allsup, Vrba, Juniors Tristan Miller and Donny Sass and Seniors Lewis Williams and Dylan Geater.

The squad returns to action Friday evening at Luther College as they face host Decorah and the consolidated Waterloo team.
