Hawkeye Community College Coach Tyler Mulder watches as Libbie Timmerman signs her letter of intent to attend Hawkeye and be a member of its cross country team.

Joined by her parents, siblings, a couple of friends and her high school trackcoach, Vinton-Shellsburg senior cross country runner Libbie Timmerman signed her letter of intent with Hawkeye Community College, where she will study nursing and be a member of the Red Tails XC team.

Hawkeye Coach Tyler Mulder joined Libbie for the ceremony last Thursday at the high school.

Mulder said he likes Libbie’s work ethic and friendly personality. He said the Hawkeye women’s team finished 8th at Nationals this fall with a team of ladies who all come from Iowa, something he said he always plans to do as long as he is the coach there.

Also joining Libbie for the signing was her boyfriend, Cole Overton, who graduated from VSHS in May and is now a student and track team member at Hawkeye, where he competes in discus and shot put.

Alongside Libbie for the signing, were her parents, Kevin and Jamie.

Libbie plans to go into nursing, and will use the scholarship that she received from Hawkeye Community College to meet her goal.

Libbie used her training as a CNA to work at Virginia Gay Hospital.  Because Hawkeye is near to the Allen College in Waterloo, she will be able to attend both colleges and further her education.
