Brayden Gross scored 3 TDs and interecepted two passes to lead Union past Vinton-Shellsburg, 45-13 on Friday. The Knights are tied for the lead in Class 2A District 7.

The Union Knights football team is tied with West Marshall for the top spot in Class 2A District 7.

Hoping to continue their string of consecutive playoff seasons, the Knights defeated Vinton-Shellsburg, 45-13 , Friday in Vinton.

Union rolled over Vinton Shellsburg in 2A District 7 matchup after a lightning delay, 45-13. West Marshall defeated Nevada, 35-3, to keep undefeated in district play. Union and West Marshall are the only two teams with undefeated district records in Class 2A District 7; they will play the final game of the regular season at West Marshall’s field.

Junior Brayden Grosse picked off two passes and rushed for three touchdowns while senior captain running back Kaleb Roach ran 24 times for 199 yards and one TD.  Union outgained the Vikings 482 yards to  287 yards. The Knights leading tacklers were senior Kyle Gross with seven tackles and senior defensive end, Ben Rempe with 6.5 tackles including 1.0 sack and 2.0 TFLs.vSenior Ben Behrens also recorded six tackles.
The Knights are currently 5-2 overall and (3-0) in the district after wins over Benton Community, Roland Story, and Vinton-Shellsburg.
