Vinton-Shellsburg sent two teams to Marshalltown Tuesday to compete in an alternate shot tournament. Rachel Tandy and Tanner Cummings, along with Lillie Lamont and Brayden Almquist competed against 60 other 2-person teams at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course. Girls put the ball in play on the even holes from the red tees and boys on the odd holes from the white tees at the Par 70 course.
Lamont/Almquist had a nice birdie early in their round on their way to an 85, placing them tied for 21st place. They played very well in their first experience with the tough alternate shot format. Tandy/Cummings played solid golf as well. They carded an 86 putting them in a tie for 25th place. The golfers battled the heat Tuesday but did a nice job working together. The teams really communicated with each other to help put them in a position to score and keep big numbers off the card.
Lillie Lamont, Rachel Tandy, Tanner Cummings and Brayden Almquist finished in the top half in their duo team scoring at State Coed at the Marshalltown Legion Course.
