The VS girls golf team shot well yesterday; shooting 382 on this course is a great score. Rachel had a tough first holewhere she put two in the water, but she showed her mettle by digging in and finishing both rounds with pars and bogies. It really was the only bad hole she had all day. It’s a pressure situation when you’re a senior and hope to make State; and you’re playing with the three lowest handicappers. For senior, Ms Tandy, this is the third consecutive year to qualify for State! The only other VS girls golfer I’ve known to do this was Laura Wilberg Dierks, a 2008 graduate. I was disappointed we couldn’t get our team through, or individually Ms Lamont and Ms Gerber. Lillie’s 91 was the next lowest number to qualify and Brandi’s 92 was also just out of qualifying! Ohhh, so close! Lauren, Carli and Abbye all shot well in their first regional and will hopefully be back with this experience under their belt next year! This team and its individuals have a year to be proud of!

We also want to give a shout out and sincere thank you to retired pro, Pat Zedrick, from Cedar Rapids who volunteers hundreds of hours to work with our girls team. He has been at almost every meet this season in addition to numerous practices in Vinton and Shellsburg. Thanks, Z!

Rachel Tandy will play at Cold Water Links in Ames for State Golf next Tuesday and Wednesday. Both days are 9 a.m. shot gun starts. She has played competively there twice: in 2016 as a State Qualifier and also that year in the State Coed Golf Tourney
