Freshman David Lapan-Islas scored twice for VS in the 6-0 win.

The record-setting 6-0 win for the VS Viking soccer team on Monday is just one of the records set or tied this year, says coach Kyle McAbee.

The Vikings defeated Cedar Valley Christian, 6-0, at home, to improve their record to 4-6.

“We tied our team record with 4 wins in a year, set the record for our largest win, 6-0, and a new record for most shut outs in a year, with 2,” says the coach.

Scoring in Monday’s contest were Kody Vogt, David Lapan-Islas (two goals), Luke Beyer, Alex Pladsen (who usually plays goalie for VS) and Damon Swenson. Noah Hedinger had 3 assists.

The Vikings are a young team; Hedinger is their only senior.

“We will honor Noah on Senior Night at home this Friday,” says McAbee.

The Vikings end the regular season next week at West Delaware. While the team knows what Sub-State grouping it is in, they do not yet know when or where their first post-season game will be, says the coach.

The Vikettes played Cedar Valley Christian, also in Vinton. They lost, 1-0.
