Vinton SportsMod driver Danny Dvorak and his crew, family and friends are celebrating another successful showing at the Super Nationals at the Boone Speedway, where Dvorak is one of just 10 drivers to qualify for Saturday night’s SportsMod Race of Champions. He also qualified for “The Big Show,” the 33-car Northern SportsMod main event, which takes place later that night.
Among Dvorak’s most ardent fans is his niece, Brittany Usher.
“I can remember how long Uncle Danny has been racing because, he has been racing as long as I have been alive — 27 years,” says Usher. “My uncle is a guy who is willing to help anybody, a clean driver, easy to get along with and humble. He loves his family and would do anything for them. I have always had a special place in my heart for him.”
“He builds his own cars too — that is something to be recognized,” Usher adds.
Of the approximately 180 sports mod racers, only 10 are chosen for the Race of Champions and 30 in the main SportsMod feature. Dvorak finished well enough in his heat races – second and sixth – to earn spots in both Saturday night events. The 10 Race of Champions drivers drew for starting position, and Dvorak drew the “6” card; he will start in that position.
“It’s exciting,” says Dvorak. “Everything fell together perfectly. We just kept making adjustments and it worked. I am humbled to make it into both races, especially since I build my own cars and this car is three years old. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the blood, sweat, tears, cheers, and beers from my pit crew, my sponsors, and the love and support from my friends and family.”
Dvorak’s wife, Jamie, says one of the couple’s favorite racing memories is how Danny was the first SportsMod driver to ever win national points the year he started racing in that division. He also made it to the main feature the first year that the Boone Super Nationals included SportsMod race cars.
Dvorak would like to thank all of his pit crew and sponsors: Beck Plumbing and Heating, The Pizza Place, Roberts Drywall, Dvorak Construction, Engelking show pigs, Nick’s TV and appliances, D & D scrap metal, Kruger Barber Shop, Wayne’s Repair and Rule’s Handyman service.
Dvorak also says he wouldn’t be wouldn’t be where he is without the love and support of his wife, his children Tevin and Nataya, and his friends, especially Troy, Bugzy, Brendan, Darrell, Billy, Susie, Little Judy, Dennis, his niece Brittany, and Bob and Bella.
Over the course of his racing career, Dvorak has raced in several divisions, including hobby stock, Thunder mod, modified and now sport mod.
One of Dvorak’s favorite phrases is something he says to his friends and crew as they are working on his latest idea for preparing a car for his next race: “Trust me; it’ll work.”
And, for 27 years, from Vinton to Boone and beyond, it has.
