The Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Vikette athletes and track coaches Megan Albertson and Annalise Duffy are celebrating Friday’s successful track meet at Benton Community, where both the 7th and 8th grade girls finished first in team scoring.

Seventh-grader Jade Coots won three gold medals to lead her team; 8th-grader Leah Hendrickson won two events.

Winning events for VSMS were:

8th grade:

Leah Hendrickson, high jump, 4 feet, 10 inches; 200 hurdles, 33:57;

Charlee Johnson, long jump, 14 feet, 11.5 inches;

Abby Bartz, shot put, 28 feet, 7 inches;

Samantha Walton, discus, 76 feet, 3 inches;

4 x 200 relay team, 2:05.25

4 x 100 throwers relay team, 1:02.80

7th grade:

Brylee Bruce, discus, 65 feet, 9 inches;

Jade Coots, 400M run, 1:06.83; 200M run, 29.82; and 100M dash, 14.87

4 x 200 relay team, 2:06.05

The seventh grade team ended up with 110 total points, 8 more than 2nd-place W Delaware. The 8th graders earned 120 points, with Marion coming in second with 101.
