Spoiler alert – VSU defeated Linn-Mar in the pool tonight 96-77! And that with giving up 13 unanswered points in diving.
VSU took first place in all but 1 swimming event (and even that event was only lost by .24 seconds). Despite several swimmers only having 2-3 days of pool practice under their belts, every member of VSU scored points.
“I’m proud of the grit our girls are showing. The veterans are putting down great performances for this early in the season, and our new-comers are proving to be fast learners and very determined. And having a larger team this year allows us more opportunities to score points in events we’ve had to leave only half full in the past,” says Coach Ashley Hesson.

Arabella Shepard swimming butterfly

Arabella Shepard had strong swims in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly – easily winning both events and qualifying for State in her second individual event this year in the 100 butterfly.

Geordyn Webster showed her power anchoring 2 winning relays and handily winning her 2 individual events. Clarissa Carolan and Lexi Goodell added more top points in their individual events also.
The girls are in competition again next Thursday at Grinnell.
