While Mother Nature has been pretty kind to us so far, there are still a few tips we’d like to share with you. Take care of YOURself. Do not overexert yourself shoveling snow. Heavy snow in cold temperatures is a lot for your body when it is not used to this. Stay DRY. Wet clothing loses its insulating factors. Don’t walk with your hands in your pockets during the winter. One slip on ice you didn’t notice can be disastrous. HOME- Make sure your chimney has been cleaned annually. Shut off outside water valves. Remove tree branches that could get weighted down with Ice or snow. Make sure that furniture isn’t blocking heat vents in the home. Avoid Ice dams on your roof. They can cause major damage. AUTO- Check the tread on your tires and make sure they have enough air. Top off antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, etc. Clear snow from the top of your car, headlights, and windows before driving. If driving during snow, rain, or sleet; make sure your headlights are on. If you get stuck, make sure your exhaust is not blocked if you leave your car running. If you get stuck, leave your interior light on so people can see you, especially if looking for you. All of us at Wilson-Hite Insurance, wish you a SAFE winter season!
