Learn more about this great project that happened at Hannen Lake!"Hi my name is John Sebetka. I am a member of BSA Scouts Troop 8 out of Cedar Rapids. I live outside of Newhall in Benton County. I recently did my Eagle Project at Hannen Lake in Benton County. I chose to do my project at Hannen Lake because we used to camp and fish here all the time when I was young and we had several Cub Scout events here. I have many memories out at Lake Hannen and wanted to give back to the park. The project was to convert an old unused archery range into a bird watching area, make and install delta waterfowl nesting baskets and tidy up the park. The delta waterfowl nesting baskets will attract ducks and give them a safe place to live and lay eggs in the spring. Ranger Cam recommended a few ideas and I chose this project because I felt it would be a good addition to the park.In total, this project cost about $600 and was funded by my family as a way to give back to the community. There were about 30 volunteers from my Troop, friends, and family and nearly 200 volunteer hours of service to complete.I would like to thank my all the volunteers for their support, my family, Ranger Cam for giving me ideas, helping with supplies and preparation and the Benton County Conservation Board for supporting Scouts and Eagle Projects."
