Annette "Nettie" R. McLennan, 56, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away January 22, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Annette "Nettie" Rene Van Scoyoc was born January 30, 1964, to Connie C. Rhodes and Darwin M. Van Scoyoc in Marengo, IA.

Annette grew up in Belle Plaine enjoying her childhood friends who formed lifelong bonds. Her family lived for a time in the country where she enjoyed riding her horse, Patches. In high school, she worked at the Blue and Gold Drive Inn with her lifelong friends. Annette worked several jobs until working at Casey's General Store for 13 years. After Casey's, she found her favorite career which lasted 20 years as a Pharmacy Technician with Belle Plaine Pharmacy and then Cornerstone Apothecary. Working in the public for many years, Annette was well known for being quick-witted with a fun attitude that people enjoyed when they came to the store. She formed many friendships with customers and very special friendships with her coworkers which made her truly enjoy her career.

In 1981, she met the love of her life Chuck, they dated in school and married on November 24, 1984. They enjoyed spending most of their time doing things together, traveling and enjoying many family fun times.

The highlight of Annette's life was becoming a mother on July 30, 1999 to their beautiful daughter Hannahlynne Ella McLennan. Her favorite thing in life was being a mother and she did an outstanding job. She enjoyed everything about motherhood and loved being home base to the many friends that Hannah had. She loved entertaining them and took them to many fun activities. Hannah is the absolute best thing that ever happened to Annette.

Through the various difficulties in life Annette took comfort from a quote from the children's movie, Finding Nemo, where the fish Dory was quoted, "When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you've gotta do? Just keep swimming". So, when life is getting hard with difficulties Annette's advice to us all is, "Just keep swimming".

Annette is survived by her husband, Charles W. McLennan of 36 years; loving daughter, Hannahlynne Ella McLennan of Belle Plaine; Hannahlynne's birth mother, Lynette McCrea, mother and father, Connie (Ben) Rhodes of Belle Plaine; brothers, Craig (Michele) Van Scoyoc of Belle Plaine, Rodney (Nancy) Van Scoyoc of Solon; sister, Sondra (Scott) Sherwood of Belle Plaine; brother, Chuck (Yvette) Rhodes of Clinton, Utah; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, 4 sisters-in-law that were truly sisters to Annette; her very special dog, Mac; and 3 cats, Lucy, Jay and Casey.

Annette was preceded in death by her father, Darwin M. Van Scoyoc; grandparents, Myron and Delpha Van Scoyoc; grandparents; Roy and Ella Homire; and mother and father in-law, Chuck and Betty McLennan.
