George E. Hahn, age 90, died Monday, March 4, 2024 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. A visitation will be held from 9 until 10:30 AM Saturday, March 9th at St. Mary's Catholic Church (2200 2nd Avenue) in Vinton. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church.

George was the seventh of 12 children born on January 21, 1934, in Grand Mound, the son of Harry and Ursula (Kaeferstein) Hahn. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph's High School in DeWitt and served in the Army in Korea from 1954 to 1956. George was united in marriage to Joan Steger on October 4, 1958, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dubuque. George worked as a hog buyer for 42 years. George and Joan moved to Vinton in 1978 and later purchased a small farm south of town where they built their home. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Day-Breaker Kiwanis Club. George enjoyed going to farm machinery auctions and spending time in his shop restoring old tractors.

Survivors include his 6 children, Kay Spratt of Waterloo, Beth (James Joslin) Hahn of Raleigh, NC, Maureen Hahn of Austin, TX, Nancy (Gary) Rash of Buffalo Gap, TX, Doug (Colene) Hahn of West Des Moines, Suzanne (Chris) Schumacher of Ballwin, MO; 10 grandchildren, Chris (Sydney) Spratt, Katie Spratt, Amy (Justin) Reuter, Ryan Rash, Madeline Joslin, Cole Hahn, Nick Schumacher, Claire Hahn, Aaron Schumacher, and Ben Schumacher; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 sisters Madonna (Bill) Glasz and Dorothy (John) Enright; 2 sisters-in-law Bonnie Hahn and Joyce Steger; and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his wife Joan; his parents; 3 brothers Jim Hahn, Vince Hahn, and Donald Hahn; 6 sisters Dolores Hahn, Margaret Harksen, Clarice Goodall, Monica Green, Bernadette Wisor, and Rita Claeys; 6 brothers-in-law Bob Steger, Wayne Harksen, Charles Goodall, Howard Green, Joe Wisor, and George Claeys; 2 sisters-in-law Mary Ann Hahn and Regina Hahn; and son-in-law Willis Spratt.
