Surrounded by his loving family, Virgil C. Miner, 92, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook, following a lengthy illness.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, at Van Steenhuyse-TeahenFuneral Home, Vinton, and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be private.

Virgil was born May 10, 1931 in Luzerne, the son of Corwin and Marie "Mae" (Fitzgerald) Miner.  He attended Union #9 Country School and graduated from Keystone High School in 1949.  On October 15, 1960, Virgil was united in marriage to Rose Mary Jennings at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids.  She preceded him in death on March 12, 2019.  Virgil's employment included farming and automobile repair.  He was employed by Fitz Auto Repair, Greenwood Chevrolet and Ervin's, retiring in 1993.

Virgil enjoyed helping his neighbors, farming, fixing tractors and cars, and time spent with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish Virgil's memory are his son, David (Connie) Miner; daughter, Mary Sheeley; grandchildren: Alex Miner, Lindsey (Tyler Fischels) Miner, Nathan (Randi Wright) Sheeley, and Dillon Sheeley; sister, Carol Kuhl; brothers: Don (Louise) Miner, and Dale (Mary Lou) Miner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rose Mary; son, Mark; brother-in-law, Dick Kuhl; and nephew, Doug Ness.

A memorial fund has been established.
