Darling Conversations - Paused for this important message

Hi Readers! I'm hitting pause on my column Darling Conversations to address something I feel is a bit more important this week. You know, priorities.I've seen a lot of bashing of our County Attorney Dave Thompson this week and I think you may be interested in hearing from someone who isn't anyone important regarding his character.I'm a nobody here in Vinton.

Letter to the Editor: They-Them

Editor:I am not sure why I am so bothered by the following – but I am.  I attended Catholic Mass today as I usually do on Sundays, and was struck by the woman hood of some of my female friends; T. M. E. and others.  I adore them not in any romantic way but in the way they carry themselves and identify; without doubt to their sex.

Letter to the Editor: Our community will crumble if our school does

Dear Editor, Rural Americans gather in school buildings for community events. We might vote there. We certainly engage with the next generation there – at first, it’s with our children, but then grandchildren, and if we’re among the luckiest among us, our great-grandchildren. Schools are the heartbeat of rural Iowa and of rural America.

Reading my mind: Karen

A website that I love has what they call a "Wall of Shame." It's used to highlight antics like the one I'm going to write about here. A few weeks ago, I quit reading comments on the opinion page by certain people. I know what they think, and I also know they don't hum "Let it go."  Most of the time it is the same handful of people over and over clubbing each other with their version of the truth.

Letter to the Editor: Rebuttal to Keller

Bill Keller, it's truly hard to believe that someone that calls themselves an American, can write something like this, let alone publish it for public consumption. Because your political party and Fox News, has you and 30% of Americans, brainwashed, you are pulling a Trump with this letter. You are accusing others of doing exactly what your party is doing to this country.

Letter to the Editor: The Democrat Plan for America – D.I.E.

The Democrat Plan for America – D.I.E. From the 1996 movie “Independence Day” - President Whitmore:  I know there is much we can learn from each other......if we can negotiate a truce.  We can find a way to coexist.  Can there be a peace between us? Captured Alien:  Peace...??  No peace. President Whitmore:  What is it you want us to do? Captured Alien:  Die.

Letter to the Editor: What's the plan?

Dear Editor,Clear as a bell!Planned chaos. If you leave the gate open, the cow will wander off.  So, if you intentionally leave the gate open, you want the cow to wander off.  You can't blame stupidity or laziness.  It was intentional. If you cut police budgets, you will get more crime on the streets.  So, if you intentionally cut police budgets, you wanted more crime on the streets.

Letter to the Editor: Thank you for taking care of the Farmers

Dear Editor, We live in a great farming community.  Here farmers are respected and appreciated.  Today I want to thank the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA and the Tama Benton Co-Op for once again providing a Harvest Meal - two weekends.  Thank you also to the sponsors who provided for this meal, part of what makes Vinton a great place to live.

Letter to the Editor: "Unhonorable" Veteran Responds

Dear Editor, On September 16, 2022, I interviewed for a position with the county as the Roadside Manager. There were three interviews held that day and three the following Monday, September 19. On Friday the 23rd, there was an apparent committee meeting and they decided to hire George "Wes" Haefner. On the morning of September 27, Josh Svoboda received a call that he was not hired for the job.

Letter to the Editor: Does appearance matter?

Dear Editor,Apparently, David Thompson thinks the race for Benton County attorney is about appearance. He includes a medically compromised photo of his opponent in all of his ads. This act of desperation shows poor judgment, unbecoming etiquette and discrimination.Sincerely,Judy Meyer
