Dear Editor,

As a citizen of Vinton, I want to rally people to make our voices known to the Town Council. I live on West 3rd Street between the Courthouse and Hwy 218; first this is the BUSIEST street in Vinton. Our inter-structure of Vinton roads are HORRENDOUS! Why is there not anything being done to upgrade our roads???? WHY??? Someone please explain. We need better roads in this town!!!!!

PK July 23, 2023, 7:08 pm I recall the bumps we hit while I was inside the ambulance on the way to Virginia Gay Hospital a while back. Didn't make me feel any better. Unsure of our rough route.
SG July 22, 2023, 8:48 am I'm with you! Let's raise our taxes even more for a street like 3rd St. that isn't too awful bad. Now go 20 mph down 2nd Ave. on our brick road that we're so attached to and listen to the motor hit the road because THAT is a bad road. Or take a trip from C Ave to the west, on 5th St. but we don't want to fix those roads...3rd St. in that stretch isn't "bad" in light of these other streets...
EB July 24, 2023, 2:08 pm Here's a tip, SLOW DOWN!
DVB July 24, 2023, 3:36 pm I 100% agree. I live on Scenic Drive and our street is awful, and it isn’t just our street it is all over town. Our taxes go up sky high but still no street repairs? I too would like to know what the plan is for road repairs in our city.
SG July 24, 2023, 4:57 pm It is definitely all over town. Fourth street from the corner of C Avenue going west to Hwy. 218 is a broken up joke of a street. And that's just one of many really bad streets in town. Why isn't the city more concerned with the condition of their most heavily traveled streets? It not only feels bad to drive on, but it looks horrible to outsiders.
GB July 24, 2023, 5:37 pm According to NG, the Biden Infrastructure Bill is taking care of everything.. Of course we will have to get in line behind green energy and the Chinese who are the biggest recipients of the bill with assurances they will maintain a monopoly on lithium batteries.
NJG July 25, 2023, 1:49 am First of all, Gerald I never said President Biden would take care of everything. That is a lie so knock it off.

This is what I read: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law makes the largest investment in public transit in U.S. history. Based on formula funding alone, Iowa would expect to receive approximately $305 million over five years under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to improve roads and bridges across the state.

I read some things about Linn County but did not do any investigation about Benton County. That will be up to you. Why don't you check with your city council members or maybe Kimmie will tell you if she has any money for you.

Did you read that "Over five years" for roads and bridges. It takes awhile. I don't think there is any way the federal government can take care of every little town on the map. The whole state is controlled by republicans, see what that gets ya.

NJG July 25, 2023, 2:23 am Are you listening to Fox all the time. That is the only place you could get such stupid info like infrastructure money is going to China. That is another lie. What is wrong with you? The only thing I read was comparisons between the US and China on the amount of money being spent on infrastructure. China poured more cement from 2011-2013 than the U.S. did in the entire 20th century. republicans always have plenty of money to give their big tax cuts but nothing for roads and bridges. Obama wanted to do infrastructure for 8 years but republicans controlling congress said no. Then trump did nothing for the next 4 years. President Biden got it passed and all republicans voted no but then took credit when visiting their districts. Typical republicans.

Here is a link to a fact sheet. You can read it yourself. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/11/06/fact-sheet-the-bipartisan-infrastructure-deal/

PK July 25, 2023, 10:16 am NJG...Why insult GB? He's one of a small brilliant group who really understands what is going on in this country. Obviously, you don't. Iowa is second in the nation for the worst bridges. It's been that way for years, [Probably since the Obama administration.]

Biden is not only worried about gas stoves, gas mowers, correct light bulbs, and electric cars; but now gas hot water heaters. WE HAVE MORE PRESSING PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY THAN THESE THINGS!! Oh, where should I begin?

China...North Korea...the war in the Ukraine...the cost financially and physically of 6-11 million illegal immigrants...etc. This is just a short list.

Then there's Biden himself. He has wanted to be president since he was a senator. Then he was VP for two terms. Now, he's President. [Pardon me for NOT applauding!] Yesterday I saw the poll. And it was not on FOX, NJG. [70% of Americans think Biden is too old] So...Think about this. If you vote for a Biden/Harris combo [God help us.], you are actually voting for President Harris.

Say what you will about the Republicans who are running for president. BUT watch them...They can walk and talk at the same time; they don't fall down; and they don't need large black font on their tele-prompters. How novel!! Biden's ego is what's making him run again. I'm just realizing that it equates Donald Trump's. Amazing!!

Now Biden's Welcome Wagon is once again open. He wants to take on Governor Abbott for trying to keep more illegals where they belong. Abbott has kept about 30% out of the United States recently. [Note that Biden has never once mentioned his "biggest blunder."] Why should he? Vending machines with crack pipes, condoms, and Norcam on the streets in the big cities is so attractive. Biden should be so proud!!

So...live in your "perfect" little world, Biden supporters. He is moving this country toward a huge disaster! While he's concerned about light bulbs, the crazy North Korean leader could surprise the US. Recall 9-11??

GB...So happy to be in your elite group!!
GB July 25, 2023, 1:20 pm Thank you PK.

NG, I thank God you only represent about 10% of the actual population in Iowa. Rather you realize it or not, having a loud voice, doesn't make you a majority anymore than making crazy allegations against Republicans without facts makes you right. You may admire Joe Biden. You may even believe he is the best thing since whip cream but about 87% of the population does not share your opinion of him. You may believe he hung the moon. I believe he lined his own pockets with wealth and sold this country out in doing so. History will prove one of us to be correct.

PK July 25, 2023, 1:47 pm NJG...If you're NOT happy with "Kimmie," why don't you move to a democratic state? Like New York, for example. The taxpayers there are so happy with the 28 billion dollars they will have spent on the illegal immigrants by the end of this year. Such a shame that "Kimmie" has this state running like a well-oiled machine. Maybe Biden should visit and take a few lessons from her IF he can remember them. Maybe you should slip off your BLUE-TINTED glasses every once in a while and really see what Joe Biden is doing to this country!! [You are something else, Lady!!]
NJG July 26, 2023, 12:28 am I thought you had turned over a new leaf Peggy because of your health scare. Looks to me like nothing has changed. Same old same old, you haven't changed a bit.

I stayed off of here for awhile, guess I will go back to that. I don't need this.

TVE July 28, 2023, 4:34 am How about west 1st past Mickeys Bar and Benton County road shop to the old last stop bar. It’s the Legion Building now that road is terrible .

Editor’s Note: This street is actually next on the list for replacement!
PK July 28, 2023, 10:40 pm NJG...Why should I change? I like myself the way I am. At least I can recognize the "real" world, and I can deal with it. Perhaps you do need a break.
RB August 2, 2023, 4:18 pm Never mind the roads, we need more corn cobs and murals!
