Every harvest season I hold my breath. Not because of the dust or the thousands of Asian beetles that make their way into the house, but in apprehension.

This Saturday the extension office is holding a Farm Safety day at the fairgrounds and the always demonstrate how they rescue someone who gets stuck in a grain bin.

In the picture, you can see what happens on the inside of a grain bin when emptying the bins. Sometimes farmers think, "It will only take a second to go inside and push the corn down..."

Corn is 18.5 moisture and the hole pictured is 25 feet across.

Please everyone be careful while unloading those grain bins. Be careful, have a safety harness on and be tied on to the side of the bin. Have someone helping you. Do not do this alone.

There is no rush, and if you take your time, you'll have a lot of it to reflect on what you did today.

Please, be safe out there.
