In its second attempt to pass a levy on to the Benton Community property owners, to improve the Benton Community School District, the voter decided to approve a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). Last year a vote to pass a $48 million dollar bond measure failed in the district.

The district hoped that changing the goal of the measure would bring different results for the school district. Last year the district wanted to build a new elementary school and this year they hope to make improvements.

The voters approved a $1.34 levy raising the property taxes by .74 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value, with the income surtax being set by the board.

The school district will use the money to upgrade the HVAC systems and make some renovations indoors and outdoors.

There were a total of 1.464 votes cast with 651 no votes, and 813 voting yes for a 55.53% majority.
