What we're reading: Absolution

"Absolution" by Alice McDermott is the story of two women who become friends while their husbands are stationed in Vietnam during the war. The women get off to a rocky start, as they navigate new social terrain, and eventually bond over their efforts to make a difference during their time in Vietnam. I just finished the romantic suspense novel "Cold Blooded Liar" by Karen Rose. It tells the story of Kit McKittrick, a homicide detective with a traumatic past, as she tries to catch a serial killer. Since the author's last name is Rose, this is my current Adventures in Bookclubbing flower-themed pick. The writing is fast paced, the characters are believable, and the story kept me on the edge of my seat without being overtly graphic.

What we're reading: "Rest and Be Thankful"

"Rest and Be Thankful" by Emma Glass is a harrowing novella by a talented young writer with a distinct writing style that I thoroughly enjoyed! Laura is a nurse in the pediatric unit and between 12-hour shifts of caring for sick and dying infants and a relationship unraveling: she is on the brink of something dark and disastrous. This is a short dark read that teeters on the edge of Horror in that we don't always know our limits until it's too late.
