Mary Nell Paquette passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024, in Battle Creek, MI, surrounded by her family. Born on February 6, 1939, in Vinton, Iowa, to Walter and Annabelle (Weist) Heineman, Mary's life was devoted to her family and community, woven with the joy she found in socializing and her various interests.Mary grew up on the family farm near Garrison, Iowa.

Brian "Butch" Kramer

Brian "Butch" Kramer, 82, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. There will be no service per Butch's wishes. The family will host a Celebration of Life on June 3, 2024, 3 – 7 p.m. at the Center Point Community Center (below the library) at 720 Main St. All family and friends are invited to gather and share "Butch" stories.

Carole Selk Phelps

Surrounded by loving family, Carole Selk Phelps, 85, passed away peacefully Monday, April 22, 2024, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at First Christian Church, Vinton, with Pastor Richard Jumper officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Timothy Patrick Cook, aka "Cookie"

Timothy Patrick Cook, aka "Cookie," 63, of Cedar Rapids passed peacefully at home on April 12, 2024 following a long battle with several illnesses. He was born in Cedar Rapids in 1960 to Joe and Margaret Cook and attended St. Jude's School before switching to Truman, Taft, and Jefferson High School where he was known for protecting friends from bullies and refusing to let any boys date his sister Janice.

Richard “Dick” Meyer

Surrounded by his loving family, Richard “Dick” Meyer, 86, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton, is caring for Dick and his family.Dick was born August 24, 1937 in rural Garrison, the son of Henry and Beulah (Geiger) Meyer.

Evelyn Eloise Waterman, age 92, died on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Keystone Care Center in Keystone, IA following 12 years of progressive loss of memory and now “dwells in the house of the Lord,” where her memory is restored. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Stephens Lutheran Church, Atkins, IA, by the Rev.

Gladys Folkmann

Gladys Folkmann, 91 of Newhall, passed away on April 18, 2024 at the Vinton Lutheran Home.  Funeral services will be held on Monday 10:30 AM April 22, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Nick Palmer officiating.  Interment will be at St. John Cemetery near Newhall. Visitation will be held at the church, from 2 to 5 PM on April 21, 2024.

Phyllis Burhenn

Phyllis Burhenn was born March 13, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Effie (Thede) Havran. She grew up on a farm outside of Keystone and attended country school. Phyllis married Harold Burhenn on May 20, 1944; he preceded her in death on March 2, 1994. Phyllis was a strong and witty woman. She helped farm for many years and continued to live on the farm for over 30 years after she lost her husband, Harold.

John Marvin “Shorty” Wilson

John Marvin “Shorty” Wilson, age 89, of Zionsville, Indiana, died on March 21, 2024, after a short illness. John was born on November 14, 1934, in Van Horne, Iowa, to E. Douglass and Alice (Herzberger) Wilson. He graduated from Van Horne High School in 1953. He was a gifted athlete and played center on the Van Horne basketball team from 1950-1953.
