It's a neat story, says Joanna Kalina, when asked about her career as a florist.

She had initially planned to be a teacher, earning an associate's degree at Kirkwood and enrolling in a four-year college.

But, she says, one day, "it just didn’t' feel right."

So she filled out several job applications, and took one to Nature's Corner.

"About 30 minutes later, Cindy Elwick called me," said Joanna, who recently earned her Master Florist status.

Joanna said she had never worked with flowers before that call from Cindy. Now, she plans on making that her career. She is one of the staff members at Nature's Corner.
