East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative is proud to announce it has awarded $1,000 scholarships to 10 graduating seniors who plan to further their education as noted below following their names. Congratulations to these deserving students! BENTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL Cameron Haerther, son of Pamela and William Haerther – Iowa State University Cameron plans to major in mechanical engineering and minor in business. To help him prepare for his future career, he hopes to intern at Rockwell Collins during the summer months. Following college, Cameron hopes to secure a mechanical engineer position at John Deere in Waterloo. Anna Hagen, daughter of Scott Hagen – Concordia University Wisconsin Anna’s goal is to double major in psychology and social work. Upon attaining her bachelor’s degree, she will study to receive a master’s degree in social work. She plans to become a play therapist and make a positive difference in the lives of children. CENTER POINT-URBANA HIGH SCHOOL Emmalee Jacobs, daughter of Ann and Bradley Jacobs – Iowa State University With her sights set on an engineering degree, Emmalee plans to seek a career that challenges her mentally, allows her work collaboratively to find solutions, and is rewarding. She believes a career in engineering will help her to develop skills such as creativity and logical reasoning. EAST BUCHANAN HIGH SCHOOL Alyssa Riniker, daughter of Jeanette and Bruce Riniker – Luther College Alyssa plans to double major in mathematics and chemistry at Luther, then attend the University of Iowa to complete her pharmacy degree. She would love to work in a hospital to help people in as many as ways possible. INDEPENDENCE HIGH SCHOOL Chase Straw, son of Barb and Brent Straw – Iowa State University Chase will be attending Iowa State University and plans to major in biology, with the hopes of becoming a dentist. In addition to academics, Chase has signed on to be a Cyclone wrestler, and with hard work he hopes to become a national champion. OELWEIN HIGH SCHOOL Celia da Silva, daughter of Ernane da Silva – Loras College
Celia is looking forward to the experiences she will obtain through interning, as well as the relationships she will build with the professionals at Loras as she works towards a business degree. She believes these experiences will help her succeed with her international business objectives and goals. Heather Anfinson, daughter of Sheryl and Jeff Anfinson – University of Northern Iowa Heather’s goal is to acquire a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an endorsement in reading. She hopes to eventually work in a high-need area—she has seen firsthand the impact an educator can have on a student’s life. UNION HIGH SCHOOL Abigail Ollendieck, daughter of Katherine and Douglas Ollendieck – University of Northern Iowa Abigail’s goal is to major in social sciences education. She wants to make a difference in the lives of students by teaching subjects such as psychology, government, and economics, which can help them learn important lessons about how they fit into our society and what students’ roles are as citizens. VINTON-SHELLSBURG HIGH SCHOOL John Eden, son of Tina and Dennis Eden – Iowa State University John’s goal is to major in ag studies and minor in agronomy. Following college, John hopes to find a job at a local Pioneer plant or a similar organization, with the goal of becoming a plant manager. Olivia Oltrogge, daughter of Pam and Al Oltrogge – University of Northern Iowa Following a recent trip to a thirdworld country, where she saw others in an overwhelming need for medical attention, Olivia’s passion to obtain a medical degree was rekindled. Initially after obtaining her degree, she would like to work at a local hospital with an emphasis on giving back to the community.
