UFG Insurance is proud to announce New Jersey agent Doris "Dee" Zampella and Cedar Rapids employee Kelly Thomas as the 2021 winners of its prestigious Scotty McIntyre, Jr. Go Beyond Award.

The annual accolade honors the legacy of former UFG leader (and son of company founder) Scotty McIntyre, Jr., whose firm belief in going beyond to help those in need still echoes in company culture today.

"Scotty believed insurance is a people business," explains UFG President and CEO Randy Ramlo. "And that principle is still at the heart of UFG today. It's behind the promises we strive to keep, especially our promise of community support."

Each year, UFG welcomes award nominations of its employees and agents who demonstrate exemplary community volunteerism and philanthropy. A diverse employee-based committee reviews each submission, narrowing the pool to one winner in an agent and employee category.

"It's a true privilege to learn about all the outstanding ways our coworkers and agent partners give back to their communities," says UFG Community Relations Coordinator and Go Beyond committee member Katie Jensen. "This year's winners, Kelly and Dee, embody the spirit of what the award is all about: selfless service for those in need."

Dee Zampella is CEO of EAB Group headquartered in Green Brook, New Jersey. When she's not at work, she's working for the greater good by serving as a volunteer EMT for Martinsville Rescue Squad, taking part in numerous nonprofit boards and dedicating her time and talent to more than 10 local organizations throughout the course of a year.

Kelly Thomas is a safety coordinator at UFG headquarters in Cedar Rapids. She has served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in her hometown of Brandon, Iowa, for more than 20 years and counting. She's at the forefront of community engagement events, including spearheading an afterschool program and counts volunteerism as a core value in her personal life.

In addition to a trophy, each Go Beyond winner selects a nonprofit to receive $5,000 from UFG in honor of their volunteerism. Dee has selected The Center for Great Expectations in Somerset, New Jersey. Kelly has chosen the Brandon Area Community Club. UFG is proud to honor Dee and Kelly by these philanthropic gifts.
