Dr. Luke Gilbert D.C. has joined the staff of Betterton Family Chiropractic. A graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, he will be treating patients alongside Dr. Matt Betterton over the next few years.

Gilbert's journey to chiropractic care took a few twists and turns before leading him to Vinton. Originally from upstate New York, athletics played a big part of his life. Originally he went to college to get a business degree and worked in an industrial hose company as a buyer. He said that he had always enjoyed helping people and the job didn't quite meet that need for him. Living life in a cubical wasn't what he had envisioned for the rest of his life.

He didn't know what he was looking for, but he wanted to be able to help people, be with people, serve people yet he remained with the company. In the background, his parents had decided to relocate to be near his sister who now lived in Ohio. Weighing his options, he decided that the family would be moving to a larger city with more options so he jumped at the opportunity to make a new start so he moved with the family.

He was sure he could land a job easily in Ohio, but that didn't happen. He applied for numerous jobs without any response. One day at the gym, he met a woman whose husband was a chiropractor. It just so happened that he needed an assistant in the office. That opened the door for Gilbert's future.

He realized that this was the career that he was born for. "I loved it! the patients came in happy and left happier." He enjoyed getting to know the patients and their families. He stayed there for about a year and a half before enrolling in Palmer College. He learned that in the United States there aren't many colleges that teach chiropractic care. Palmer in Davenport was the first and it was just a handful of hours from his family, so he enrolled.

He met Betterton through one of the Gonstead Seminars which Dr. Betterton helps to present around the world.. Gilbert had seen Betterton in Milwaukee, and through the seminars, the two connected. When the offer was made to shadow Dr. Betterton's work here in Vinton, Gilbert gladly accepted the offer. He came to Vinton twice and chose to "precept" (complete his training) in Vinton with Betterton rather than stay at the school and treat patients there.

Gilbert arrived in Vinton in July and plans to remain here at least for the next few years. While there has been a slight adjustment living in a small town, he said that he likes it a lot and that it has really grown on him.

So the next time your neck aches or the back feels a little out of whack, stop by and see Dr. Gilbert for an adjustment at Betterton Family Chiropractic and see if he can't get you back in alignment. And while you're there, be sure to welcome him to Vinton!
