Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will hold a composting demonstration at the Mogler Family Farm on Monday, Aug. 18, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Farmers interested in composting will have the opportunity to view a demonstration of a compost turner using both cattle manure and animal mortalities.

"The Moglers have successfully composted for three years, which has reduced their rendering cost, lowered the volume of material they haul and concentrated nutrients," said Kris Kohl, field agricultural engineer with ISU Extension and Outreach. "We encourage all farmers to come see how new innovations on Iowa's farms are turning waste into valuable resources."

At the field day, Kohl will discuss the benefits of composting and share best management practices. Ross Mogler, farm owner, will demonstrate the Kooima Ag compost turner that is used on the operation. Kooima Ag will also be present to provide refreshments and answer questions about the equipment.

The demonstration will be held at the Mogler Farm, located at 1625 Eagle Ave, Alvord. This event is available at no cost, and registration will begin onsite at 12:45 p.m.
