Food systems event elevates local food and community partnerships

The Food Systems team with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Farm, Food and Enterprise Development, in partnership with the Iowa Food System Coalition, welcomes practitioners, organizations and businesses to submit proposals to present at the Iowa Farm and Food Conference, to be held June 11–12 in Waterloo.

The biennial event, previously known as the Community Food Systems and Farm to School and Early Care Conference, engages, supports and inspires professionals across all sectors of the food system. The conference theme, “Futuring our Food System,” is about imagining bold, transformative possibilities for the future and the measures to get there. Presenters are encouraged to share their work, research and community initiatives while highlighting innovative approaches that strengthen Iowa’s food networks.

Session options include:

  • Bite-Sized: 15-minute sessions to briefly share about a successful program, project or research study within your organization or business.
  • Breakout: 60-minute sessions to discuss a project, initiative or research that allows for engagement with participants.

Individuals may submit proposals for lecture-style presentations, panel discussions, interactive sessions or skill-building trainings. Collaborative proposals are encouraged. Sessions will take place on day two of the conference, Friday, June 12. Presenters selected for the conference will receive waived registration fees for Friday’s sessions.

“Our goal for this conference is to bring together anyone engaged in food systems work throughout the state and beyond to imagine into existence a shared future that supports us all,” said Megan Kemp, food system specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.  “We hope the event serves as a space for collaboration and peer-to-peer learning, where attendees can hear a wide range of perspectives and practices.”

Presentation proposals will be accepted online through March 13. A preview of proposal questions is available, and individuals may submit multiple proposals. Accepted proposals will be announced in mid-April.
