Dr. Brian Meeker, medical director of Virginia Gay Hospital & Clinics, is presenting several unusual cases of colon cancer at the Annual meeting of the American Association For Primary Care Endoscopy. This year’s meeting is in Memphis Tennessee. Dr. Meeker is on the Board of Directors for the AAPCE and this is the third year in a row he has made presentations.

Joining Dr. Meeker this year is Michael Woltman, MD of the Weland group. Dr. Woltman also serves as medical director of laboratory services at VGH. Dr. Woltman will be discussing the microscopic findings of these rare cases.

The primary care endoscopy services at VGH were originally established by the late D.C. Weideman. In 1992 the services were re-established by Dr. Meeker and expanded. Dr. Meeker has performed over 2000 colonoscopies, and now performs about 250 cases a year. He has also performed over 500 upper GI scope procedures.

The American Cancer Society and many other authoritative organizations recommend screening colonoscopies to screen for and prevent colon cancer starting at age 50 for all people, and earlier for high-risk groups.
