'Cake Wars' continue: ACT 1 announces auditions for 'Last Round Up of the Guacomole Queens'

ACT 1 of Benton County is continuing its performance of the plays in the "Cake War" series, with the third and final comedy of that set, "Last Round Up of the Guacomole Queens. Auditions are being held at the ACT I center Saturday and Sunday January 6th and 7th, beginning at 6 pm. Saturday and from 2 to 4 pm Sunday. Son of Vinton natives helps turn popular 2D movies into 3D projects

When Vinton residents gather at the Palace Theatre later this month to see the 3D version of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," part of what they see will be the work of a man whose father grew up in Vinton. Ethan Helms, the son of Dave and Sally Helms, and the grandson of the late Bob and Dorothy Helms, grew up in Colorado and currently lives in Toronto, where he works for Stereo D, a company that helps fix the challenges of turning 2D movies into 3D films.

"The Star," an Affirm Films/Sony animate project, tells the familiar story of how the angel came to Mary to announce the news that she would become the mother of Jesus, and then follows Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, where the familiar Nativity characters gather to celebrate the birth of Christ.

Sanders light tradition to end after Christmas 2017

"To everything there is a season," said Bonnie Sanders, in a message to friends about the difficult decision she and her husband made to stop setting up their large annual light display after this holiday season. "After much consideration and discussion (even some tears) Dwight & I have decided that 2017 will be the final year for our large Christmas light display," Bonnie says.

Kersten light display brings Christmas

Squirrels and/or mice chewing light strings and scratching the paint from decorations. A display that fell on her, requiring staples to close a head wound. Wind and other elements wearing on displays that are nearly 50 years old. Those are just a few of the challenges Heidi Kersten has been facing for the past several years, as she, with the help of a few friends, attempts to keep going the famous light display her father, Larry started around 1965.
