We already have several more reservations for showings of "American Sniper" later in the week. To be sure your favorite seat is available, get your tickets online at www.vintonpalace.org or stop at the Box Office any time after 5 pm.

There has been so much hype about this movie, the third-highest grossing film of 2014 that continues to top national box office charts, and to be honest, I’ve done my best to avoid every word. I prefer to make up my own mind about a film, without clouding my judgment with “expert” media analysis and criticism. Catching a film raw, with no preconceived ideas, is almost impossible to do these days.

Especially a critically acclaimed, Oscar nominated movie directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper, about US Navy Seal Chris Kyle, and based on his autobiography.

“American Sniper,” rated R for strong and disturbing war violence, language, and sex, plays the Palace Friday, February 13 through Thursday, February 19 at 7 pm, and Monday, February 16 at 2 pm.

Main floor tickets are $3 at the door, $4 in advance. Premium balcony seating for $6 is limited.

I mentioned to Palace Trustee Doug Martens that I’m anxious to see this movie, but thought it was unfortunate we pulled a war drama for Valentine’s weekend. His reply - “Yes, but ultimately, isn’t it about the love between a soldier and his wife?”

Wednesday Matinee

Due to popular demand, the Palace Theatre is adding in a 2 pm matinee of “American Sniper” on Wednesday, February 18. Tickets are available NOW online or at the box office. Patrons are encouraged to purchase in advance as all originally scheduled showings of this American war drama and love story have sold out, and upcoming shows are selling fast.

Bad luck on Friday, the 13th

Special thanks to those patrons who were treated to our special Friday the 13th non-screening! A power outage in downtown Vinton fried the mother board of our projector. We regrettably were forced to refund or exchange tickets for a full house. Palace Theatre managers Gerald, Marcy, Charley, and Abby appreciate your understanding and support!

On Saturday, Gerald was able to drive to Missouri and pick up a temporary part. The real fix is on the way from California, but the movie is up and running and tickets are hot!
