We’ve finally found the glass slipper! “Cinderella,” with a PG rating and running time of 105 minutes, dashes gracefully into the Palace Friday, April 3 through Thursday, April 9 at 7 pm, and Monday, April 6 at 2 pm.
Fairy tale skeptics who feel they’ve seen and heard it all before aught give Kenneth Branagh’s latest foray a chance. He sweeps away the ashes and makes the traditional storyline work with the help of a few capable mice, a magic pumpkin, and an immensely popular and gloriously talented cast.
Downton’s Lady Rose herself, Lily James, portrays the lovely and charming, courageous and ever-so-nice Cinderella, with “Game of Thrones’” Robb Stark, Richard Madden, as the handsome prince. Cate Blanchett is gorgeous and glamorous as Lady Tremaine, the evil stepmother, and Helena Bonham Carter delights as the sassy, silly Fairy Godmother.
Patrons young and old are invited to the Palace ball! Purchase your tickets in advance, online or at the box office, to assure your favorite seats.
BRINTON SILENT FILM PROJECT COMES TO VINTON APRIL 23
Red Cedar Chamber Music brings The Brinton Silent Film Project to the Palace Theatre on Thursday, April 23 at 7 pm.
The Brinton Silent Film Project features Red Cedar Trio members, flutist Jan Boland, guitarist John Dowdall and cellist Carey Bostian, performing live to accompany “an exceptionally rare, perhaps unique, collection” of silent films from 1895-1910. These films, being viewed for the first time in over 100 years, comprise “perhaps the most significant collection of early films in the world.”
Film owner and historian Michael Zahs will also be on hand to discuss the films and John Hegarty will portray Frank Brinton, the original owner of the films who showed them across Iowa from 1895-1910. The concert features the premiere of new music by Harvey Sollberger, which accompanies four of the films.
Arrangements by Boland and Dowdall and music from Red Cedar Chamber Music's repertory complement the remaining 18 silent films, ranging in length from 10 seconds to 10 minutes. The films include comedy, drama, special effects, foreign scenes and magic by Georges Méliès, whose life story was featured in the film Hugo.
Ticket for this special concert film may be purchased now, online or at the box office, for $10.
