Let’s have a show of hands for all those who’ve waited to see “Avatar” in 3D at the Palace!
“Avatar” was originally released on December 18, 2009. Nine months later, almost to the date, the Palace opens with the re-released “Avatar” on Friday, September 17 at 7 p.m.
The James Cameron 3D wonder will show Saturday, September 18 at 2 p.m. and (NOTE THE TIME CHANGE!) 6 p.m.
On Sunday, September 19 we resume our regular schedule, showing “Avatar” at 7 p.m. through Thursday, September 23, and in our regular Monday Matinee on September 20 at 2 p.m.
Rated PG-13 with some pretty high scores (high = violent, racy, and obscene) from Kids-in-Mind.com and a running time of almost three hours, you’re more likely to enjoy the film and preserve your child’s innocence if you opt for a babysitter.
A paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.
I know – doesn’t sound like something I’d watch, either, but this movie won three Oscars, including Art Direction, Cinematography and Visual Effects. James Cameron was nominated for Best Director and his film was also up for the Academy’s Editing, Music, Sound, Sound Editing and Best Picture awards.
Here’s the comment I’ve heard over and over – “My husband begged me to go. I didn’t really want to see it, but “Avatar” is just the best movie! Amazing! And such a fantastic storyline.”
And from those who’ve seen it in 3D at one of those expensive cinemas and at home on their DVD players – “You have to see it in 3D. It’s incredible! You won’t believe it!”
For those of you patient and loyal Palace patrons, those too busy to catch it out of town, or those who can’t wait to see it again – we’ve got the glasses (and popcorn with REAL butter) for only $3! With an extra nine minutes of originally deleted scenes, “Avatar” has finally arrived at the Palace Theatre!
IOWA VS ARIZONA
“Avatar” is showing at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 so we can show the Hawkeye football game at 9:30 p.m.
If you haven’t checked out the game on the big screen… well… you don’t know what you’re missing! It’s FREE! (Thanks for your donation to our Chair Club!) And seeing that Big Ten action on a 13 X 29 foot screen with all your rowdy and raucous cheering friends and neighbors is better than being there. Really!
“Even the commercials are better – vibrant, amazing!” ~volunteer Nancy Good
Due to the movie, doors won’t open until almost kick-off, but Gerald will be grilling in the alley. Bring your lawn chairs and hang out to assure a good seat. Coolers containing beer, wine and wine coolers (cans and plastic, please) are welcome. However, no food or other beverages will be allowed. In addition to our regular Palace concessions, brats, hotdogs, nacho and pizza will be available.
We’re black, gold…and BLUE at the Palace this week!
