As an admitted Facebook junkie, I’m looking forward to “The Social Network,” the story of how Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) came up with the idea in his university dorm room to create Facebook.
“The Social Network” opens Friday, November 12 at 7 p.m. and plays every evening through Thursday, November 18. This movie will also show in our regular Monday Matinee.
My daughter turns 13 this month, and I thought this might be a fun movie to invite her friends to see together for a birthday party. However, upon further research, I decided against it.
“The Social Network” is rated PG-13 and has a definite college-age feel and age-appropriateness. While there is no full-out sex in the movie, kids-in-mind.com gives it very high scores on the sex, profanity, and crudeness scales.
Commonsensemedia.org did not even rate it. This is not a family movie.
Roger Ebert loved this film, giving it four out of four stars! Wow. That never happens. So those adults curious to learn how Mark Zuckerburg became a billionaire at the tender age of 23, we’ll see you this week at the Palace.
'THE TOWN'
Be sure to stick around for the stacked late shows or Sunday matinee of “The Town.” Playing THREE DAY ONLY, Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m., this movie is rated R and runs just over two hours.
I can definitely recommend “The Town” for our mature viewers. Gerald and I caught this one when we were in Minnesota for a few days last month. This terrific action adventure is set in the Charlestown area of Boston and tells the story of a young group of bank robbers, carrying on a family tradition of crime.
Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, this film may not be quite as good as his first directorial success, “Gone Baby Gone,” but it’s close. I also loved Rachel Hall as Claire, the film’s heroine, and Jeremy Renner as Jem, the bad seed.
For just $4 you can catch two great films on the big screen this week. See you at the Palace.
