Another totally fun and enjoyable day is in store at Garrison’s annual Fun Day Celebration on Saturday,  August  11. This event is also the community’s annual celebration. Activities will be held at the library, Emergency Services Building, Main Street, park, and at the Hitchin’ Post.

The day begins with a poker run in memory of Lenny Geiger with Registration at the Hitchin’ Post at 9 AM a.m. and departure at 10 AM. Proceeds will be donated to  Benton County Survivors Group and Garrison Fire Department.    Entry fee is $10 per rider.    This years route will be 125 miles leaving Garrison with stops in Blairstown, Toledo, Dysart, La Porte City, Brandon and then thru Mt. Auburn and ending back at the Hitchin' Post in Garrison in time for the annual BBQ Dinner and Dance.

Activities shift to the Garrison  library at  10am.   A ceremony will be held for a Blue Star Marker Dedication  honoring  the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces!      A reception will follow the ceremony in the library.

Then join us at the Emergency Services Building for the 6th  Annual Kid’s Health & Safety Fair  from  11 am  to  2  p.m. The first 100 kids will receive a goodie bag.  Come check out Garrison’s new Fire  Safety  simulator, the simulator was received through a grant from Benton County Community Foundation.    All children must be accompanied by an adult to attend,  attendance is a free will donation. Then at  2:00  it is time for kids age 2-14 to grab their bikes and head to the park!    Maybe just put "for bike races! Prizes provided by local businesses.

The  11th Annual Garrison Show and Shine Car Show also begins  2  pm Main Street. Registration is $10. There will be trophies for the following categories Best Ford, Best GM, Best Mopar, and Best of Show.    People’s Choice voting begins at  4:30 pm.

The annual barbeque and  dance will be held at the  Hitchin’ Post. This year’s barbeque will  be  pork loin, donated by Tyson Foods.    The barbeque begins at  5:00 PM,  with a suggested donation of $10 per person.  Following the barbeque stay and enjoy an evening of music by Adam Keith.   Admission to the dance  after  8pm  is a suggested  donation  of $5.
