The Simon Estes Foundation’s Young Artist Performance Program will be in residence April 20-21, 2012 in Vinton. Young Artists Shelby VanNordstrand, soprano and Joshua Markley, baritone accompanied by Jodi Goble, piano will perform in recital along with the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Chamber Choir on Saturday April 21 7 p.m. at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Vinton Farmer’s Savings Bank & Trust or the night of the concert. Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Vinton-Shellsburg High School is located at 210 West 21st Street, Vinton, Iowa 52349.

The program will feature the Simon Estes Foundation’s 2012 Young Artists performing art songs, arias, duets and ensembles by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Copland, Donizetti, Bernstein, Brahms and Samuel Barber. In addition, the Young Artists will join with the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Chamber Choir to perform “Make Your Garden Grow” from Candide by Leonard Bernstein.

The day prior to the concert, the Young Artists will spend time visiting with vocal music students in Benton County high schools. During each visit they will perform for students, share their experiences about how they chose a career as a professional singer and the preparation, dedication and perseverance required. In addition, they will answer questions from the students. They will also rehearse with the Vinton-Shellsburg Chamber Choir and attend public events.
