The Cedar Sounds Women’s Acapella Barbershop Chorus will hold their regular Tuesday night chorus rehearsal at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1115 Water Street, Center Point, IA on June 25th from 7-9:30pm. The chorus is a member of the international organization Sweet Adelines International.
Cedar Sounds, a long-time member of the Cedar Rapids cultural scene, is initiating a program entitled Harmony Express. This is an effort to expose the joy of singing barbershop harmony to women in communities near Cedar Rapids in the hope they will join and ride with other Center Point community members for the choruses’ weekly rehearsals in Cedar Rapids. Center Point is the first in a series of rehearsals in other cities.
The evening will include an explanation of four-part harmony, barbershop style, performance by the chorus and one of their quartets, learning to sing short excerpts of music from chorus songs (tags) as well as an opportunity for guest questions and refreshments. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to sing with the chorus during the evening. A simple vocal range analysis will be made with each guest to determine which part she should be focused on for the evening, tenor, lead, baritone or bass.
This event is open to women who are interested in finding a fun and educational outlet for the development of their vocal talents. For further information contact Janet Walker, Membership Coordinator, jwalker1282@imonmail.com
