CP Friends of Library wok on 'Room of One's Own' and annual meeting

Volunteers have been putting together shelving for the Friends organization’s own permanent book sale room in the expanded and remodeled Andersen Center Point Public Library. The space is in the old DVD/audio book room. Working on August 23 were: Friends members Dorothea Wood, Vicki Thompson and Roberta Gilchrist and Library Board member Dennis Schlicht.

AmeriCorps NCCC continues service at Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area

Kellye Howard teaches kids how to blow bubbles at the Dragonboat Festival. Since July 18, the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team, Cedar 3, has served at the Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area, in addition to Oak Hills Christian College. The team has been extremely busy during their time in Bemidji, Minnesota, serving as program staff at the BGCBA, which includes helping with over 100 youth per day.

Benton Co. youth show reserve champs at State Fair Market Swine Show

 Trey Lettow of Boone County exhibited the Grand Champion Market Hog in the 4-H Market Swine Show judged Tuesday at the 2016 Iowa State Fair. Kade Polich of Boone County exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog. Lettow also showed the Champion Pure Bred Market Swine and Aaron Cain of Lucas County claimed Reserve Champion Pure Bred Market Swine.

Marshall Meyer shows Champion Purebred Female at State Fair Breeding Sheep Show

Marshall Meyer of Benton County exhibited the Supreme Champion Purebred Female in the 4-H Breeding Sheep show Tuesday at the 2016 Iowa State Fair. Lane Vander Linden of Marion County exhibited the Reserve Supreme Champion Purebred Female. Karlyn Snider of Marshall County snagged the Champion Commercial Ewe award, while Nicole Zuber of Iowa County claimed the Reserve Champion Commercial Ewe title.

Tyler Atkinson shows Reserve Champion Junior Spring Doe at State Fair

Chloe Goretska of Wayne County exhibited the Grand Champion Doe in the 4-H Breeding Meat Goat show judged Friday at the 2016 Iowa State Fair. The Reserve Grand Champion Doe banner went to Taylor Decious of Marion County. Maegan Schorpp of Kossuth County claimed Third Place Overall. Decious also took home the Fourth Place Overall title and Olyvia Malone of Des Moines County received Fifth Place Overall.

CP girl is runner up in Junior Cowgirl Queen contest

Maggie Holzworth of West Des Moines was crowned Senior Cowgirl Queen Friday at the 2016 Iowa State Fair. Alexus Coleman of Monroe earned the title of Junior Cowgirl Queen. The Junior Cowgirl Queen Attendants include the four runners-up in the competition for young women ages 10 to 15. The attendants are Abby Mccormick of Indianola, McKenna Clark of Carlisle, Alexus Callyn Fox of Center Point and Sierra Chittenden of Norwalk.

Benton County 4H Foundation Thanks Community

The Benton County 4H Foundation held a silent auction at the 2016 Benton County Fair. There were fifteen items donated by 4H clubs and individuals for the auction. The auction earned $1510 for the 4H Foundation to be used for scholarships, trips, camps and other needs of the 4Hers. The 4H Foundation would like to thank everyone that donated and bid on the items to make the silent auction a success.

Selken family holds 75th reunion

The 75th Selken Family reunion took place at the the home of Gerald and Margie Selken on Aug. 7. Those Present Were: Lenard and Charlene Velsey, Newton Ia, Susie & Jeffary, Zac,Tanner, & Brittany Even of Jesup Ia, David & Julie Duncalf and Grandaughter Melodie D’hooge of Luzerne, Ia., Bob & Colleen Schulte of Dehli Ia.

The Benton County Fairboard would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Payton Sash as the 2016 Benton County Fair Queen, Bobbie Hilmer as the 2016 Benton County Fair Princesses, Macy Arbuckle 1st runner up and Carly Selken 2nd runner up and Macy Arbuckle as Miss Congeniality. NCCC Maple 3 team buids bike, hiking trails in Vinton

By Luke Lauer, Maple 3 Here in the North Central Region’s hometown of Vinton, Maple 3 is serving with the Parks and Recreation Department through August 5 to develop new trails and recreation areas for residents.  Within just the first week of work the team has already built a new mountain biking trail linked to already existing trail networks.
