Where are they now? How being a sports anchor is Brett Edwards' second choice

Brett Edwards: Former Viking and 2001 VS grad is now sports anchor at KLKN-TV in Lincoln, Neb. Brett Edwards has sat face-to-face with NBA legend Bill Walton. He gets paid to travel all over the country, covering his favorite college football team. He has seen some of the most famous football venues in the country. Yet, he says, there is one job he would rather do than the one he is doing now. Edwards, the son of Jeff and Sue Edwards of Vinton, graduated from Vinton-Shellsburg in 2001.

Aaron Sackett among Wartburg Homecoming King candidates

Aaron Sackett; CPU Homecoming King is now candidate for Wartburg King. The 2010 Center Point-Urbana Homecoming King is now among the candidates for that honor at Wartburg. Aaron Sackett, the son of Chris and Rose Sackett of Center Point, is a biology major at Wartburg. 4th Street Diner News and Oct. schedule

The 4th Street Diner meal on Sunday, October 13th will be Baked Chicken, Mashed Potatoes/Gravy, Corn, Mandarin Oranges, Cake, WW Bread, Milk.   On Monday, August 12th, there were five tables of Pepper Cards were played.  First place went to Patti McKenna with 271 points.  Darlene Werning won 2ndplace with 234 points.

VSHS graduate Katherine Dick jones NHS Phi Alpha Theta

Katherine Dick, left, was among 10 new National Historical Honor Society Phi Alpha Theta inductees. VSHS Graduate Katherine Dick was recently inducted into the National Historical Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta.  The ceremony was held September 24, at Luther College in Decorah.  Phi Alpha Theta is an international honor society in history. Lambda Omega Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta was chartered at Luther college in 1966. The membership is comprised of students and professors elected to membership on the basis of excellence in the study or writing of history.

Tilford first graders again celebrate wedding of Q and U

Q (Kiley Fiser) and U (Payton Gill) walk down the aisle after the QU wedding at Tilford. Although at times they start a quarrel, Q and U quietly quoted their wedding vows again at Tilford Elementary. First grade students at Tilford continued the annual tradition on Friday with the students of Mrs. Neblung and Mrs. Martinez-Vazquez making up the bridal party and the guests. Vinton Mayor John Watson again officiated the ceremony.

We Just Had to Ask: Elementary Art Teacher Lindsey Otto

Art teacher Lindsey Otto helps prepare students for a project by reading a book about Australia. Lindsey Otto teaches art for all grades up through fifth at the Tilford and Shellsburg elementary buildings. She helps her students share their work through the VS Elementary Art Rooms Facebook Page.  Today, we help Mrs. Otto share some interesting information about her and her love of teaching art.  Q. Is there anything that your family asks you not to cook, ever again? A: Most of my pasta concoctions.

VS FFA holds first Greenhand Night

Ms. Kirschbaum speaks to the Greenhands. For the first year ever, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA chapter held a local Greenhand night for new FFA members on Tuesday October 1, 2013. “Greenhand” stands for a first year member in FFA, not necessarily just for the freshmen, though our night was not just limited to the first year members, anyone was welcome to come.
