IA Commission on Volunteer Service gives grant to Americorp

The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) today approved $179,000 in state-funded RSVP grants and up to $5.75 million in federal AmeriCorps grants and Education Awards that together will leverage and support approximately 44,000 community volunteers and nearly 650 AmeriCorps State members who will provide direct support to thousands of local nonprofits, schools and communities throughout Iowa.

Alliant Energy to initiate Appliance Cycling in parts of Iowa Monday

USDA Crop Certification Deadline is June 30, 2012

  John R. Whitaker, State Executive Director for USDA’s Iowa Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers that the annual crop certification deadline is June 30, 2012. Producers should file an accurate and timely report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage and prevented planting. "I encourage all producers to visit their local County FSA office to file an accurate crop certification report by the June 30th deadline in order to comply with FSA program eligibility requirements," said Whitaker.

Vinton veteran John Gualtier to attend Onassis Award event Tuesday in DC

John Gualtier is in D.C. for the Onassis Awards in honor of his volunteer work for veterans.   Vinton veteran and long-time Iowa VA Hospital volunteer John Gualtier is heading out to Washinton DC for his paticipation in The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Volunteer Awards presentation. He earned this honor after being chosen as the top volunteer among the KCRG-TV "Nine who Care" in January. John and his wife Jill left Monday morning to fly to Washington DC.

J'Nae Rempfer named to Concordia University, Nebraska's spring honors list

  Top 25 percent of undergraduate students qualify for honors list J'Nae Rempfer of Blairstown, Iowa, was named to Concordia University, Nebraska's honors list for the second semester of the 2011-12 academic year. The top 25 percent of undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list.

'Showtime:' Cooling Dancers present annual recital

'Stars to Be:' Kindergartners Emerson Fleming & Matthew Bookmeier dance together.    The Cooling Dancers of Vinton presented their annual recital June 2 and 3 at the VSHS Auditorium.  Four performances were given featuring 300 students and nearly 80 dancing dads.   Students performed to a variety of new and old music celebrating the “Showtime” theme.  Emcees for each performance were Eric Upmeyer of Vinton, and Joan Cooling Noeller.
