Aaron Koppen Named to Spring 2011 President's List at LeTourneau University

  Aaron Koppen of Shellsburg, Iowa, was named to the Spring 2011 President's List at LeTourneau University. Koppen achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average to receive this honor. LeTourneau University Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Steven D. Mason said being named to the President's List is a significant academic achievement and honor.

Brittany Bergstrom   Name: Brittany Bergstrom Hometown: Bethel, CT NCCC Team: Cedar 2   Brittany graduated from Westfield High School in 2007, then went to Western Connecticut State University and graduated in January 2011 with a Bachelor's of Arts and Sciences in Social Science. Before AmeriCorps NCCC started, Brittany graduated from college a semester early in order to prepare for her service year.

AmeriCorps NCCC Takes Out the Invaders

  By: Alex Johnson   A team of AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) members is assisting YMCA Storer Camps on a variety of projects for eight weeks between March 17 and May 13, in Jackson. The NCCC team, Cedar 1, is helping remove invasive species and provide outdoor education to children through workshops to restore the grounds and educate the community about the natural area surrounding the camp.

AmeriCorps NCCC Goes to Camp

Kim Vegliante cuts up some wood   By: Kristy Hawes   The AmeriCorps NCCC team, Oak Seven is working at Camp Helen Brachman in Almond, Wisconsin from May 5 to June 30. The team is doing a number of maintenance repair projects so that the camp is able to run during its summer sessions.   The team is doing such things as building and maintaining nature trails, painting and staining buildings, repairing bicycles and rebuilding docks.

NCCC Maple 4 Painting at Vinton Community Pool

Maple 4 members Gaby Nieves & Gregory Day paint the Vinton pool's trim.  By Gaby Nieves & Phil Schaefer      AmeriCorps NCCC team Maple 4 is painting the Vinton community pool this week.  The paint for the pool is a two-part paint that dries immediately. It takes 7-10 days to cure before it can hold water.      The team is also painting the lifeguard seats and restroom privacy fences.

CPU students hope to jump into Guiness Book of World Records

Members of the CPU Biology Club helped organize the effort to set a world jumping jacks record.      Led by the High School Biology Club and high school teacher DeEtta Andersen, the Center Point Urbana School District tried to set a new world record Wednesday afternoon.     At 3:05 p.m., 387 students began doing jumping jacks in the CPU Middle School gym. Another group of elementary and high school students began at the same time at the school building in Center Point.
