Benton County Community Foundation Seeks Governing Committee Volunteers

The Benton County Community Foundation (BCCF), an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa (CFNEIA), is seeking volunteers to serve on its governing committee. The BCCF connects people to the causes they care about through charitable giving, enriches Benton County communities through grantmaking and believes in the power of partnerships.

3 Area Students graduate from Allen College with degrees

The following area graduates received a degree from Allen College:Laryn Ewoldt of Dysart received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree Annika Schmidt of Vinton received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with Cum Laude honors, Molly Schmidt of Norway received a Associate of Science in Radiology degree with Summa Cum Laude honorsThe College awarded 127 degrees during its commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 7, 2021.

Classmates of 1963 start their coffee meets

A core group of 1963 classmates met Tuesday morning at the Vinton Family Restaurant for their 1st coffee since February 2020. IOWA CONNECTIONS ACADEMY GRADUATES SENIORS FROM ACROSS THE STATE

Leading Online Public School Hosted Virtual Commencement for Class of 2021 on May 16Iowa Connections Academy, one of Iowa’s most experienced tuition-free, online public schools for students in grades K-12, honored the school’s 116 graduating high school seniors during an online ceremony on Sunday, May 16. The 2021 graduating class is the largest to date for the fully virtual school, which opened in 2012.

Mount Mercy University recognizes student achievement at Honors Convocation

The following student received recognition for outstanding achievement at Mount Mercy University's Honors Convocation on May 14: From Van Horne, Oceana Papakee, Anne K. Stenzel Outstanding Social Work Student Award Over 30 awards were given during the ceremony, recognizing students for excelling in academics and extra-curricular activities while demonstrating leadership and personal growth during their time at Mount Mercy.

Vinton student awarded $1,500 America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Scholarship

Vinton-Shellsburg High School student Emma Arnold has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by Bayer Fund. McKinney 2021 Lutheran Education Association's Distinguished Teacher

Becky McKinney, Preschool Teacher at Central Lutheran School, is the 2021 Lutheran Education Association’s Distinguished Lutheran Early Childhood Teacher. This award is given annually to one early childhood educator in the country. Ms. McKinney has been teaching for 16 years at Central Lutheran School in Newhall, Iowa, where she also serves on a variety of committees and volunteers to help with extra-curricular activities.

IDB Library Named NLS Regional Library of the Year

The Iowa Department for the Blind is incredibly pleased to share that the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, a division of the Iowa Department for the Blind, has been named 2020-2021 Regional Library of the Year by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled at the Library of Congress. Our library provides reading materials in braille, audio, large print, and other alternative formats to Iowans of all ages who cannot read standard print.
