Et cetera : AmeriCorps NCCC Class 19 Corps Member Spotlight: Devin Bolton

Devin Bolton, from Pacifica, Calif., is a member of Cedar 4 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start her 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 4 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.

When asked why she joined the program, Devin said that it provides “good work related skills, along with my passion to help others and travel.”

Devin brings several skills with her to NCCC, which help her be successful throughout her term with the program. She has skills in dance, marketing, advertising, with computers, organization, and leadership. She is also a team player.

Prior to joining NCCC, Devin was finishing her bachelor’s degree at Elmira College in business administration with a specialization in marketing. She also graduated from Corning Community College with an associate’s degree in general studies. After she finishes the program, she plans to go back to Elmira College for her master’s degree in emergency and disaster relief.

Cedar 4 recently completed a project that ran from May 2 to June 25 with The Nature Conservancy – Michigan in Tecumseh, Mich. The team assisted in protecting biodiversity, restoring habitat for threatened and endangered species, improving water quality, and increasing awareness of the threats posed by invasive species. The work provided by the team contributed to the continuing restoration efforts to the natural terrestrial communities at Ives Road Fen Preserve and the River Raisin Headwaters project. The project positively impacted human communities that utilize the river for drinking water, recreation, and other purposes.
