Morgan Whitney, from Foresthill, Calif., is a member of Cedar 6 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start her 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 6 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.

“I love the feeling of serving the country,” Morgan said. She is a returning member to the program, having served as a Corps Member at another NCCC campus. “I learned a lot when I served last year,” she added.

Morgan brings several skills with her to NCCC which help her be successful throughout her term with the program. Many of those skills come from her experience last year, which help her to be ready for this year’s new tasks and to assist other members.

Prior to joining NCCC, Morgan had attended Sacramento City College for two years. She also graduated from Foresthill High School in 2007. After finishing her term, Morgan plans to go back to school and finish her degree.

Cedar 6 is currently working from July 15 to August 2 with Taltree Arboretum and Garden in Valparaiso, Ind. Cedar 6 is assisting the arboretum in removing of invasive plant species, constructing a stage that to host concerts and special events, maintaining the nursery, and cleaning and chipping trails. The removal of these invasive plant species allows for native plants and arboretum exhibits to flourish and provides visitors a more expressive environment.
