The NCCC team of Maple 2 is currently working with the Nebraska National Forest and Grasslands. This is home to the largest hand planted forest and oldest federal nursery in the world. During this project, the team is working at three locations in Nebraska: Halsey, Chadron, and Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest.
Maple 2 spends their time refurbishing a deer fence meant to keep deer from eating the juvenile trees. The team is also clearing burned and dead trees affected by forest fires through the use of chainsaws. In lieu of those tasks, the team is engaging in campground maintenance and general paperwork.
Despite the fact that this is a rather short round, the team is working really hard to get as much work done as possible. The team has maintained a very positive relationship with the sponsoring organization and is very well appreciated. Maple 2 is also looking forward to all the other potential volunteer projects in the area. In their free time, Maple 2 hopes to explore Nebraska and South Dakota as much as possible with all the historical and recreational landmarks nearby.
