Patrick Bower, from Charleston, Ill., is a member of Cedar 4 in NCCC’s Class 19. He arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start his 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 4 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.
“It isn't entirely about the service for me,” Patrick said. “I am interested in traveling, serving others, meeting new people, and learning new skills along with new views on skills I already have.”
Patrick brings several skills with him to NCCC, which help him be successful in his role as a Corps Member. He brings a positive attitude, dedication, and hard work to his team.
Prior to NCCC, Patrick was working at a local restaurant as a waiter and bartender. He graduated from Charleston High School in 2007. After finishing the program, Patrick has his options fairly open. He is hoping to find a steady job that he enjoys.
Cedar 4 is currently on a project that runs from July 15 to August 3 with One Heartland in Willow River, Minn. The team is assisting with camp programming, meal service, and facility upgrades at One Heartland, which is a camp for people who are facing social isolation due to HIV/AIDs, homelessness, Type 2 Diabetes, and identifying GLBTQ. Facility upgrades includes the staining of buildings and structures.
