The Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) presented $188,100 in scholarships and awards to youth who participated in 4-H and FFA beef, swine, sheep, goat and poultry projects Saturday, August 17, prior to the Sale of Champions at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.
The ceremony included the presentation of 129 scholarships with a value of $172,950, as well as 95 performance and carcass awards valued at $15,650. When tallied with the Sale of Champions receipts, the IFAA provided $531,200 to young livestock and poultry producers to sustain their interest in agriculture and encourage related careers.
Established in 1988, the IFAA’s goal is to recognize the thousands of 4-H and FFA members who complete agriculture-related projects and pursue agriculture-related careers. The organization added the scholarship program in 1990. Since the inception of the Sale, more than $6 million in sale proceeds and scholarship money have been distributed to deserving youth

Mary Davis of Hazleton won First Place Overall in the Heirloom Vegetables division of the Vegetable Crops contest judged Tuesday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.
