AmeriCorps NCCC team Cedar 4 has been staying on the NCCC campus during their current service project. Each day they travel to Cedar Rapids to help the Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity in their Brush with Kindness Program.
The Brush with Kindness program is a grant that Habitat for Humanity was able to receive in order to help fix up house exteriors that were destroyed in the flood of 2008. Cedar 4 is learning to scrape off paint as well as prime and paint houses. They have been serving with Habitat since August 9, and have completely finished one house in a little over a week. They are serving on this project until September 6, and will diligently work on a few more houses. Each member of Cedar 4 is enjoying being able to see the progress they have made in just a short amount of time.
The team is also enjoying being able to explore Vinton in their extended time on campus. Recently, the team traveled to Des Moines, IA for the Iowa State Fair, and they are quickly becoming more cultured on everything Iowa!
