Lindsay Jackson, from Oakley, California is serving on team Oak 7 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term. Oak 7 is made up of eight people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest.

Lindsay says, that she wanted to join the NCCC program, “To give back to our country in any way possible while bettering my future in a positive direction. I want to build character and a foundation for my future.”

Before Lindsay joined the NCCC program she was working in the line of Retail Merchandising, and anticipating the start of her service term.

Oak 7’s second round project is at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, in Kalamazoo, MI

Oak 7 will assist the sponsor on a variety of tasks including: seeding in the Greenhouse and field, cultivation, building infrastructure for an expansion, design and plan a learning garden, and assist Farm Education staff during educational programs. The additional help that this team will provide during the planting season will allow the farm to advance its mission by reaching further into the Kalamazoo community, thus connecting more people to the food they eat.
