By Brad Anderson American Legion Post 57

It was just last month that the remains of Iowan Robert E Howard were buried with full military honors in Moulton, IA. Staff Sergeant Howard was killed when his B26-B bomber was shot down over Germany during WWII.

The American Legion does not take, nor deserves, any credit for the repatriation of Staff Sergeants Howard's remains but the POW/MIA issue is of paramount importance to the American Legion. We are working with both Congress and the Defense Department to improve the policies and programs for the accountability of missing persons. For years the American Legion supported a National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is now recognized annually on the third Friday in September.
