Shannon Uble, from Flemington, New Jersey is a corps member for Maple 1 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 1 is made up of eight people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest.
When asked why she decided to serve in the NCCC program, Shannon says, “I enjoy volunteering and making a difference in people's lives.”
Before Shannon became a NCCC service member she was attending school and trying plan for her next steps in life.
Maple 1’s third round project is at the Trails for Illinois, in Shelbyville, IL
Maple 1 will assist with primitive trail construction; brush/wood clearing & hauling, multi-use trail construction and repair; bridge repair and replacement; invasive species control. A restored system of connected, traversable hiking and biking paths will provide more opportunity and connections for Shelbyville area residents for healthy, outdoor physical activity; raise the appeal of Lake Shelbyville’s extensive hiking and biking trails to outdoor enthusiasts, thus boosting trail-based tourism.
