Iowa American Legion Hawkeye Boys State is for young men who have just completed their junior year of high school. It is a week long "Hands-On" experience in the operation of our democratic form of government. Through the Boys State objective of "learning by doing", young men will learn more about city, county and state government in one week than they would in an entire semester of high school.
Hawkeye Boys State is held each year in mid June at Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA. The next Boys State is June 14 to 19, 2015. Each Iowa American Legion Post will chose how many young men they wish to host and pay for their tuition.
There is a Girls State, which is administered by the American Legion Auxiliary.
